Checking into luxury hotels around the world and hearing A-grade gossips is a tough job, but thankfully Richard E Grant is selfless enough to do it.

This week in Richard E Grant: Hotel Secrets (Sky Atlantic, 8pm) he’s nobly taken it upon himself to visit some of the sexiest hotels and hideaways in the world, to find out more about the scandalous secrets of the rich and famous – and we’re not just talking about pocketing those little sachets of shampoo.

Richard’s first destination is the Beverly Wiltshire Hotel in Los Angeles, where he discovers that one of Hollywood’s most infamous Lotharios once made use of a secret stairway.

But it’s in L’Hotel in Paris, which was the favoured haunt of singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, that Richard is really left wishing that the walls could talk.
