Trawling through the internet last night I happened to check out some of the Japanese REG sites (through the Babelfish.com translator) and had a bit of a chuckle at some of the things I found.

Now obviously the Babelfish translator isn’t foolproof (what translator is?) and there are just some things that won’t translate too well into English, but some of the stuff does bring a smile to one’s face – in particular the following titles for some of REG’s movies.

Crimson Carry (The Scarlet Pimpernel) – Well scarlet, crimson, purple…..It’s all much of a muchness, isn’t it? I wonder what he’s supposed to be carrying though?

Oral Attaching Of Demon (The Serpent’s Kiss) – Yeah well….The “oral attaching” part works for me….and a serpent could be a demon I suppose, couldn’t it?

Abnormal Crime Psychological Investigation (The Cold Light Of Day) – This hits the nail on the head. That’s what the film was all about after all – though the title itself is a little dry.

The Method Of Succeeding In Announcement Industry (How To Get Ahead In Advertising) – Once again, can’t fault it. The advertising industry is an announcement industry after all – even if the title loses that “get ahead = get a head” angle.

L. A. The Town Where The Story/Love Falls (L.A. Story) – Well, it is in L.A. and it is a love story of sorts?

Nile Of Love And Ambition (Mountains Of The Moon) – There’s ambition, there’s love and there’s the Nile. What more do you want?

The websites themselves were great. One of the websites in particular, http://torajima.fc2web.com/home.htm, was quite well laid out and interesting – a fount of knowledge for Japanese speaking fans, I would think. I also suspect that a great deal of the information at the site is translated from the REG Temple itself, but any site that bestows the virtues of REG’s wonderful talents has the thumbs up from here at the Temple. Getting the REG word out needs to be encouraged!

The reference to the REG Temple “ill-smelling” though was a little unusual? But then the whole passage was a little bewildering. It reads:

From REG up-to-date information, to the photograph it is quantity, ill-smelling it is.
Because it is official, there is also information from main person of REG, because (you cannot read the curator, you heard in purple)

I just put that all down to bad translation on Babelfish’s part :-) I hope that’s all it is?
