Scarlet Pimpernel Updates

September1

A few people have mentioned that in the Cheers and Jeers section of the American TV Guide, The Scarlet Pimpernel shows up under the Jeer heading only because of A&E’s (American cable channel) failure to follow up the first installment with the other two.

“JEERS to overly delayed gratification. Last March, A&E aired The Scarlet Pimpernel, the opening salvo in a three-part costume epic based on the novels of Baroness Emmuska Orczy. Richard E. Grant played the title character, an 18th-century British aristocrat whose foppish manner is a cover for a secret life–boldly rescuing innocent victims from the guillotine-happy French radical Robespierre. A number of angry readers wrote us to complain that they have been waiting for months for the final two installments. The cable channel just announced that the other Pimpernel installments will air in October and November. It’s about time, A&E. Some of your viewers were ready to storm the Bastille.” Finally!

Jennifer tells us that her copy of Biography mag said this:

October 31- The Scarlet Pimpernel Meets Madame Guillotine. Richard E. Grant and Elizabeth McGovern return for another adventure of the caped crusader.
