Simon Gray’s Otherwise Engaged is incomparably his best play, adult and literate, challenging and very, very funny. – Sunday Telegraph

Tuesday 11th October at 7:30pm
Wednesday 12th October at 2:30pm, 7:30pm
Thursday 13th October at 7:30pm
Friday 14th October at 7:30pm
Saturday 15th October at 2:30pm, 7:30pm

A B C D E Mon – Friday evening £23.00 £21.00 £18.00 £14.00 £11.00 Saturday evening £25.00 £23.00 £19.00 £15.00 £12.00 Wednesday & Saturday matinee £17.50 £15.00 £13.50 £10.00 £10.00

Internationally acclaimed actor Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Withnail and I, The Scarlet Pimpernel) and one of the UK’s greatest playwrights Simon Gray (Quartermaine’s Terms, Butley, A Common Pursuit) join forces in this award-winning play.

Witty, urbane, sophisticated and selfish, publisher Simon Hench is a man of taste and discretion, who is accustomed to keeping himself at a graceful distance from the messy distractions of his family and friends. He has a problem though – well, several actually – only he just doesn’t know it yet. Settling in for an evening with his new recording of Wagner’s Parsifal, Simon is besieged by a deluge of unwelcome visitors, and his usually cool demeanour begins to buckle as life finally catches up with him.

Richard E. Grant leads an impressive cast in this vibrant, modern day comedy of manners. Wickedly sharp and thought provoking, this is the theatrical event of the year. Book now!

Contains one scene of partial nudity.

Nigella No-Show

July4

Unfortunately it seems that Richard’s appearance on Nigella was/is non existent as REG had to fly out to Canada today to work on “Above And Beyond” (which he reported on last week). There’s no news on whether he’ll appear on Nigella’s program at a later stage.

Thanks Denise.

Just In…

June26

The latest from REG:

Hi Cam
I am filming in Newfoundland, Canada at the moment – “Above And Beyond” set during the second world war playing Don Bennett, a real life pilot who pioneered and organised the supply of bomber planes to fly from Gander airport to Britain. It’s a four hour mini series.

Wah-Wah has been chosen to open the Edinburgh film festival on the 17th August and will have a gala screening as well as public screenings. Followed by a special presentation screening at the Toronto film festival in mid-September. The main cast and I will all attend these festivals and do question and answer sessions with the audiences.

Would be grateful if you could post this update on the site.
Hope all is getting better for you on the home front.

I’ve also asked REG about the special screening of Wah-Wah that he mentioned quite a while back now. Stay tuned for that…

CBC, Power Co-Produce WWII Caper

June24

C21 Media Net – Friday 24th June, 2005

By Ed Waller

Shooting starts this week on Above & Beyond, a new drama that unites Pope Productions, Shaftesbury Films and CBC Television of Canada and UK co-financier/distributor Power.

Being filmed in Canada, the (2×90′) miniseries is due to air on CBC in November. It follows a daring WWII plan by newspaper tycoon Lord Beaverbrook to build bombers big enough to fly into Europe directly across the Atlantic from Newfoundland.

As well as Joss Ackland (K-19: The Widowmaker) and Richard E Grant (Withnail & I), the series stars Ken Welsh (The Aviator, Hound of the Baskervilles), Liane Balaban (New Waterford Girl, Seven Times Lucky), Jonathan Scarfe (ER) and Allan Hawco (The Eleventh Hour, Bliss).

Written by Lisa Porter and John W Doyle and directed by Sturla Gunnarsson, the show’s producers are Paul Pope and Scott Garvie and the executive producer for Power is Justin Bodle.

“This is a fresh and inspiring take on one of the most compelling events of the Second World War,” said Bodle. “It was little short of a miracle that more than 20,000 aircraft were successfully delivered to Churchill as a result of this plan. In this the 60th anniversary year marking the end of World War II we have a chance to bring to life one of the most thrilling and ingenious missions by Allied Forces.”
