The Scarlet Pimpernel II – A Good Name

April24

Drama (Scarlet Pimpernel / Sir Percy Blakeney)

REG is back with three more episodes of the popular series.

Here’s what Teletext had to say about it:

The Scarlet Pimpernel is swashbuckling his way back to BBC after a 2 year absence: Richard E Grant is back as 18th century James Bond, Sir Percy Blakeney in 3 new 90 min. adventures from Oct. 18. Richard, 43, who performed many of his own stunts, said “like anything, you just do it and are grateful you haven’t busted your legs. I spent a whole day in a water-tank and enjoyed it as the water was very warm”.

Scarlet Pimpernel star Richard E Grant admits that he missed his wife Joan and his daughter Olivia, while filming the BBC drama for 4 months in the Czech-Republic.

He said:” I missed them enormously, but you get well paid, watered, fed and looked after. In the scheme of things, it is a very short time to be away. I wasn’t stuck in the middle of the Russian Wasteland for 17 months. It was very civilised”.

Richard E Grant hopes the BBC makes a third series of Baroness Orczy’z French revolution hero the Scarlet Pimpernel. He joked:” The next one I envisage is the Pimpernel in the Pacific. I’d have him waylaid on a ship of aristocrats, so there is a lot of wet bustier activity and the BBC budget can be stretched. It’d be perfect for me, but no-one has mentioned doing anymore. But never say never, we’ll wait and see.

Best REG line: I get to fight nasty villains, ride magnificent horses and make love to beautiful women! (Talking about his role in the films)

The Scarlet Pimpernel Meets Mademoiselle Guillotine

April24

Drama (Scarlet Pimpernel / Sir Percy Blakeney)

Richard Grant returns to his role as the foppish British aristocrat who leads a dangerous double life in this second Scarlet Pimpernel movie.

At a party thrown by the Blakeneys in London, the Marquis du Rochambeau, an old friend of Marguerite’s, arrives with a story of woe and a plea for help in rescuing his daughter, who is trapped-though safe-in France, with the Revolutionary authorities looking for her. The Pimpernel immediately undertakes a mercy mission, but once in France, he is nearly undone by a farmer who reveals his presence the Chauvelin, who is also looking for the Marquis’ daughter. It is just the first of many deceptions, betrayals and stunning turns that complicate what at first seemed to be a rather straightforward rescue.
