REG has just emailed me to inform the Temple:

“I am currently doing Robert Altman’s latest titled “Gosford Park” shooting in London, set in a country house in the 1930’s. Playing head footman. It’s an upstairs-downstairs epic and for once I am not playing a toff. Great cast of Brit thesps:- Maggie Smith, Charles Dance, Michael Gambon, Derek Jacobi, Emily Watson, Eileen Atkins, Helen Mirren, Jeremy Northam, James Wilby, Alan Bates, Stephen Fry, Kelly mcDonald, Kristin Scott-Thomas, plus some Yanks, Bob Ballaban and Ryan Phillipe. Shoots till the end of May and thereafter the dreaded USA actors strike so unsure what if any employ beckons down the line. My flick of ‘”Wah-Wah” is stalled till the strike is settled.”

Meanwhile Kari has sent me a pic from Hildegarde which you can find here. She said that REG should be kept away from chickens, ducks & fowl of all kinds!

With Nails – Read by Richard E. Grant

April22

“The biggest surprise about this collection of anecdotes about being an ‘Englishman abroad’ in the Hollywood machine is how well written it is; almost as if Grant has his eye on straddling two professions as successfully, say as, Dirk Bogarde. Getting his first break, the death of his first child and making a turkey (Hudson Hawk) all reach beyond the film world into stirring biography “.

53rd BAFTA Awards 2001

April14

Richard first appeared on film wearing a blue shirt looking VERY tired. He talked about Mary Selway, the casting lady, and congratulated her on her award.

He then turned up to give out the award for Audience’s Vote of Best Film. He was very smart in a 3/4 black jacket with white shirt and black tie worn in a “Withnail’s” style.

He did NOT look at all happy. I mean he was majorly pissed off at something. Anyway, with a look on his face that could have killed he read the nominations and then handed the winner the award.

Even after the presentation – the camera quickly went to Richard when he was sitting down again – he was clapping, but he still seemed in a FOUL mood. All was not happy on the Swazi front!!

At the end as the credits came up they showed a brief bit where he was being interviewed by the presenter but, as it was, we’ll have to get hold of the Sky One version that was shown the previous night to see more of the scenes that were “deleted”. Otherwise we won’t know what was said, or done, to Richard to annoy him in such a way.

Click here to see some pics of Richard from the Mary Selway video presentation.

Let Them Eat Cake Appearance?

April7

Dawn writes:

“I came accross your site when looking for a film list for Richard E Grant. I think your site is great.

I just thought you might want to know of another guest TV appearence he was in. I believe he was in an episode of “Let Them Eat Cake”, starring with Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. It was the one about de Sade escaping.”

Anyone know about this at all?
