REG alert!!

This is very exciting news. REG contacted the folks at the Temple, (me and the REGiment) and is enlisting our help for a charity event. He’s organising a screening of Withnail and I early next year to raise funds for his old school in Swaziland. It’s a very worthy cause and it’ll be a star-studded affair! Seems to be a fair bit of REG on TV this silly season.

UK viewers will be treated to ’12th Night’ on BBC2 on Christmas Day.

Anastasia tells us that A&E has scheduled all three of the Pimpernel movies for December 26th, starting at 1:00 PM Eastern time – and the 26th is a Sunday, the perfect day for vegging out with SIX HOURS of Our Hero.

The Cable Guide (USA) shows the following times for A Christmas Carol in December. All times EST:

Dec. 11 at 8:00 PM
Dec. 12 at 3:30 PM
Dec. 18 at 9:00 PM
Dec. 19 at 3:30 PM
Dec. 25 at 8:00 PM

Speaking of A Christmas Carol, TNT and the CC website may short-change REG, but TV Guide knows quality when they see it: in next week’s guide, Susan Stewart (on the “Notable Programs” page) says:

“…Richard E. Grant is a fine Bob Crachit, stalwart with his family but terrified of Scrooge. When the miser gives the clerk a raise, Crachit assumes that Scrooge has lost his mind and grabs a poker to defend himself. The comedy leavens Carol’s inevitable sentimentality.”

She gives the show a 7 out of 10 rating. It would surely be MUCH lower without the intelligence and grace of REG.
