Jennifer Lawrence Will Find Staying Grounded Hard, Says Richard E. Grant

February14

DigitalSpy.com – 14th February, 2014

By Daniel Sperling

Richard E Grant has predicted that Jennifer Lawrence will find it “very hard” to avoid being changed by fame.

Grant told Digital Spy that he is a huge fan of the Hunger Games actress, and hopes that she will be able to keep a level head after achieving so much success and popularity at a young age.

Naming Lawrence as one of his favourite young actresses at the EE and Esquire pre-BAFTA party at The Savoy, Grant said: “I’ve seen everything she’s done.

“I think you have to be [grounded], but at the same time I also know if fame and fortune is thrown at somebody’s head when they’re very young, it’s very hard not to have your world turned upside down.”

Grant also singled out Lawrence’s boyfriend Nicholas Hoult and Les Miserables star Eddie Redmayne as two other particularly talented young stars.

The Withnail & I star also spoke about launching his own fragrance in April, stating that he hasn’t just put his name to a random product like some other celebrities.

“I don’t think [other stars] make their own. They’re not involved,” he said. “I know what every single part of the process has been, what everything costs, where it’s sourced from – I haven’t just put my name to something somebody else has come up with. It’s my signature in scent.”

He continued: “I’ve been obsessed with smelling everything since I can remember. I tried to make perfume when I was a kid, so this is like a fulfilment of a lifetime dream.”

It’s Richard E. Downton

February14

www.dailymail.co.uk – 14th February, 2014

He made his name as a seedy ne’er-do-well, but Richard E. Grant, star of Withnail & I, tells me he is to appear in four episodes of Downton Abbey, though he wouldn’t reveal what his role will be.

He was a footman in the 2001 film Gosford Park, which won Julian Fellowes an Oscar for the screenplay, so let’s hope he is going up in the world, possibly as a fragrant suitor to Lady Mary.

At the EE and Esquire pre-Bafta party, he rhapsodised about his unisex perfume, Jack.

His keen sense of smell, he said, led him to become a perfumer, and he chose all the ingredients himself.

Asked what the over-riding odour at the party was, Grant replied: “Champagne breath. It’s the worst smell in the world. It smells like dog’s a***.”

Girls Guest Star Richard E Grant Defends Lena Dunham Nudity

February14

www.digitalspy.com – 14th February, 2014

By Daniel Sperling

Richard E Grant has defended Lena Dunham over complaints about the amount of nudity in Girls, commenting that only “old people” are bothered by that element of the show.

Dunham came under fire while promoting the third season of her HBO show last month when a reporter at the Television Critics Association press tour accused her of appearing naked “at random times for no reason”.

Talking to DS at the EE and Esquire pre-BAFTA party at The Savoy last night (February 12), Grant – who guest-starred in Girls as a wise rehab patient – said of Dunham: “She’s hit the zeitgeist of women between the age of 20 and 30. To do that, she’s a genie.

“I think old people fixate on [the nudity]. Anybody her age doesn’t even think twice about it.”

Touching on accusations of nepotism flung at Dunham and the rest of the Girls cast, Grant argued that any young actor has to fight to prove themselves in the industry, regardless of their connections.

“Some people are sort of born into it, but even if they have famous parents, they still have to prove themselves,” he said. “It’s very democratic in that way. Your talent is your currency. There’s no easy route in.”

Dunham recently told Digital Spy that she welcomes “intelligent debate” about the nudity in Girls, but said the TCAs comment “wasn’t very polite”.
